A mobile court of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), in an eviction drive from Mirpur section 14 to Bhasantek area of the capital, demolished some 300 illegal structures that occupied roads and footpaths of the areas.
DNCC Executive Magistrate SM Shafiul Azam and Sajid Anwar led the drives.
During the drive, more than 300 semi-concrete structures, makeshift shops, sheds, ramps, built illegally on footpaths were knocked down.
Around 30,000 square feet of space of roads and footpaths were reclaimed for the movement of pedestrians.
The magistrates awarded 15 days simple jail term in default to pay fine Tk 1 lakh to a trader Kamrul Islam as he piled construction materials on road and footpath and was trading.
Another businessman was fined Tk 50,000 on the same charge.
